Our teachers
The swimschool is a family run business with Denise, Ann and Hazel (ASA Level 2) running the majority of the lessons with their children acting as poolside assistants and level 1 teachers.

 Hi, my name is Denise.
I learned to swim at King Edmund School (KES) while my mum was the council instructor there. I qualified myself in 1985 and worked for various swimschools before taking over lessons at King Edmund in September 1990, soon after my Mum had retired.
I am married and have three children, the eldest at University, one at college and one at secondary school. They all learned to swim with Kingfishers and all play an active role in the swimschool now.
I love my job and get real satisfaction from seeing the children do something for the first time, whether it be the most nervous child getting in the pool without any tears to the more advanced children completing their 5000m badge!
My hobbies include swimming (naturally) and cycling and I try to do one of these activities every day.

 Hi, my name is Ann.
I have worked for the swimschool since 2004. I am married and have two girls at senior school. During the day I am a primary school teacher at a local school, so often know the children when they join. I love my job at Kingfishers; the atmosphere is always very relaxed and the children are all happy to be there.

 Hi, I'm Hazel
I have worked for the swimschool since 2006. I am married and have three grown-up sons. During the day I work as a swimming teacher for local schools. I love teaching swimming and find my job very rewarding.

 Hi, I'm Paul
I started lessons at Kingfishers when I was 3. I became a volunteer three years ago and have recently qualified as a level 1 teacher. I am doing A-Levels at SEEVIC college and teach at the swimschool in the evenings. I enjoy working at Kingfishers because I love watching the children having fun and learning such an important life skill, just as I did.

 Hi I'm Sophie!
I was taught to swim at the Kingfishers Swim School from the age of 3, and ever since I have loved to swim. When I was 14 I started to help out with the younger children as a helper in the water. I then went on to take my Lifeguard qualification, my ASA Level 1 and then Level 2 Swimming Teachers qualification and taught at the Swim School until I went to university in Sept 2008. I am currently studying a BEd in Primary Education at Plymouth but I return to the swim school occasionally to check up on the children and the other teachers!
